Abstract: Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which results from pancreatic beta cells dysfunction & insulin resistance and are characterized by hyperglycemia. The in-vivo anti-diabetic potential of E. hirta L. was also determined so as to justify the traditional usage of the plant in treating diabetes. The result of the present study confirmed that the methanolic extract of E. hirta possess significant anti-diabetic activity in-vivo, this shows that the plants has the potential for the development of drugs in combating diabetes.

Abstract: Stress is a condition of the body which change the equilibrium between the body and its environment. Stress is either short term or long term. short term stress may lasts for few hours but long term lasts for few months. long term stress causes many health problems like respiratory infections, lack of sleep, poor diet etc. Many hormones involve in the stress response like cortisol, epinephrine, norepinephrine, gonadotropins. Immune system also affected with stress. Stress weakened the immune system. Stress causes an increase in the white blood cells (WBC) in the blood. This review discusses the effect of stress on hormones and on immune system. Chronic or long-term stress can suppress the pathological and protective immune responses While short-term stress can increase the expression of pathological and protective immune responses.

Abstract: Having a child with type 1 diabetes (T1D) has an impact on the family’s dynamics, but less is known about the specific influence the child’s gender exerts. The parents attending a routine diabetic review clinic were asked to complete the Family Adaptation and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES-IV), and associated measures of family communication and satisfaction with family life. 53 mothers and 10 fathers completed the questionnaires, and the results revealed that mothers found communication within the family poorer if the index child was a girl, and felt less satisfied with family life. The fathers reports tended to echo this view. Possible reasons for this discrepancy are discussed, and it is suggested that routine review of children with T1D should maintain awareness that family functioning may be experiencing strain, particularly if the index child is a girl.
